Israel Solà

Israel Solà, born in 1982 in Barcelona, studied Physics at the University of Barcelona and Directing and Dramaturgy at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona. After completing his studies, he founded the theater group La Calòrica, where he directed numerous plays on contemporary themes such as political satire, power, comedy, censorship, and environmental protection. Some of his notable works include Le congrès ne marche pas (Teatre Lliure, 2023), De què parlem mentre no parlem de tota aquesta merda (TNC, 2021), Feísima enfermedad y muy triste muerte de la reina Isabel (Teatre Lliure, 2019), Els Ocells (Sala Beckett, 2018), and Fairfly (Teatre Tantarantana, 2017; awarded the Max Award). In 2023, he directed the opera Nala by Andreu Gallen (Teatre del Liceu), and in 2021, he directed the operas La Voix humaine by Francis Poulenc and La veu sàuria by Mariona Vila at the Principal de Palma.
He served as a dramaturg for the dance piece Kebo by Vero Cendoya (Mercat de les Flors, 2024), Paraula roent, a piece based on the work of poet Antònia Vicens (Palau de la Música, 2022), Nachtträume by Marcos Morau (Opernhaus Zürich, 2022), and Bogumer by Vero Cendoya (Mercat de les Flors, 2021). He adapted new versions of Much Ado About Nothing and Titus Andronicus for the Parking Shakespeare Company in Barcelona. In 2022, his play Australia premiered at Sala Flyhard in Barcelona, winning the award for best small production at Teatre Barcelona. Additionally, he has worked on various radio, television, and podcast projects.
