Alexandre Simões

Profile

Born in Brazil, Alexandre Simões graduated at the Mannheim Dance Academy in Germany, under the direction of «the German ballerina» Birgit Keil. He has danced as a soloist with the Karlsruhe Ballet, Ballet Mainz and for most of his career with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s Ballett am Rhein in Düsseldorf, under the direction and mentorship of Martin Schläpfer.

Simões worked with, or danced pieces from, many of the most renowned choreographers of our time like George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, sir Kenneth MacMillan, sir Peter Wright, Antony Tudor, William Forsythe, Twyla Tharp, Mats Ek, Jiří Kylián, Martin Schläpfer, Martin Chaix, Ohad Naharin, Paul Lightfoot & Sol León, Marco Goecke and Hans van Manen.

After such a rich career as a dancer, Simões started working as a stager for the Hans van Manen Foundation; he later also joined the Staatsballett Karlsruhe as a full time balletmaster and choreographic assistant to the director Bridget Breiner; and this season he joined the Staatsballett Berlin’s new director Christian Spuck as a member of the artistic staff.
