Profile

British mezzo-soprano Stephanie Wake-Edwards completed her undergraduate studies at the University of York, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Social Psychology, before earning a Master’s degree in Vocal Studies at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Alex Ashworth. She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music and represented England at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 2021. She has performed at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Glyndebourne Festival, the Bavarian State Opera, and English National Opera. Since the 2024/25 season, she has been a member of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where her roles have included Maddalena (Rigoletto), the Forester’s Wife and the Woodpecker (The Cunning Little Vixen), Marchesa Melibea (Il viaggio a Reims), and Mary (The Flying Dutchman). In the 2025/26 season, she appears there, among other roles, as the Countess of Coigny (Andrea Chénier), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Barbara (Violanta), Hermia (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), as well as at the Glyndebourne Festival.
