The Canadian composer Owen Belton resides in Vancouver. He studied Fine and Performing Arts at Simon Fraser University as well as Acoustics and Computer Music Composition under Owen Underhill and Barry Truax. Since 1994, he has been composing music for ballet. At that time, he wrote Shapes of A Passing for Crystal Pite and Ballet Jorgen in Toronto. He has since created numerous works for international ballet companies such as Kidd Pivot, the National Ballet of Canada, Nederlands Dans Theater, Paris Opera Ballet, Cullberg Ballet, Ballett Nürnberg, Oregon Ballet Theatre, and 420 People Company in Prague. Additionally, he has composed sound designs and music for theater productions, as well as music for various television and short film productions. Owen Belton was awarded the Canadian «Dora Mavor Moore» Award for Best Ballet Score for his music for Emergence in 2009.
