Michael Küster studied German, Art, and Speech Science at the University of Halle. He then worked as a presenter, author, and announcer at various broadcasting companies in Germany. There, he presented numerous classical programs and live broadcasts of important concert events, including from the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Semperoper Dresden, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus. Since 2002, he has been a dramaturge at the Zurich Opera House, working with directors such as Matthias Hartmann, David Alden, Robert Carsen, Moshe Leiser/Patrice Caurier, Damiano Michieletto, David Pountney, Johannes Schaaf, and Graham Vick. As the dramaturge of the Zurich Ballet, Michael Küster has worked since 2012 with Cathy Marston, Marco Goecke, Marcos Morau, Edward Clug, Alexei Ratmansky, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, and Hans van Manen, but above all with Christian Spuck (including Romeo und Julia, Messa da Requiem, Winterreise, Dornröschen). At La Scala in Milan, he was the dramaturge for Matthias Hartmann's opera productions of Der Freischütz, Idomeneo, and Pique Dame.
