Matthew Newlin

Lyric tenor Matthew Newlin was born in Georgetown, Illinois, and received his training in Edwardsville and Chicago. In the 2023/24 season, he sang the title role in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide at the Theater an der Wien and appeared under the baton of Christophe Rousset in Jean-Joseph Mouret’s Les Fêtes de Thalie in Washington and New York.
Other recent guest engagements have taken him to the Semperoper Dresden as Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), the Opéra national de Paris and the Munich Opera Festival as Froh (Das Rheingold), the Bavarian State Opera as Pong (Turandot), the Staatsoper Hannover as Léopold (La Juive), and the Theater Basel as Tom Rakewell in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress.
Matthew Newlin has been a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2013.
