Matan David
Matan David was born in 1982 in Rishon LeZion, Israel. He began with folk dance and later studied at the Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts and the Bat Dor Dance School. At the age of 17, he attended the summer programme at Juilliard and was accepted into the Junior Ensemble, The Batsheva Ensemble, of the Batsheva Dance Company the following year. He danced there for two years before joining the ensemble of the Batsheva Dance Company, where he danced for another ten seasons. During these years, he participated in some of Ohad Naharin's most well-known works, including Three, MAX, and The Hole.
From 2013 to 2017, Matan served as the director of the Junior Ensemble, The Batsheva Ensemble, which developed into one of the leading young companies in the world. In the same year he became director, he won the Yair-Shapira Prize, and the ensemble was recognized by the Israeli Ministry of Culture as the best performing ensemble. From 2019 to 2021, Matan David was the rehearsal director of the Batsheva Dance Company. Matan David teaches Gaga worldwide, stages works by Ohad Naharin, and is part of the core team of regular teachers at the Batsheva Dance Company.
