Marcos Morau
Trained between Barcelona and New York, Marcos Morau (born in 1982) studied photography, movement, and theater. Since completing his studies at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University, he has been designing imaginary worlds and landscapes for the stage, where movement and imagery intersect and enhance each other. For over a decade, Marcos Morau has led the artist collective La Veronal, where he creatively serves as a director, choreographer, set designer, costume designer, and lighting designer. These works have been performed at major festivals in more than thirty countries, including the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, the Biennale di Venezia, the Festival d'Avignon, Tanz im August in Berlin, Festival RomaEuropa, SIDance Festival in Seoul, Danse Danse Montreal, and Sadler's Wells in London.
In addition to his work with La Veronal, Marcos Morau is a guest artist in various companies and theaters worldwide, where he develops new creations, always halfway between performing arts and dance, including the Nederlands Dans Theater, Opéra de Lyon Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Zurich Ballet, Compañía Nacional de Danza in Spain, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, Carte Blanche Norway, Luzerner Theater Ballet, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf Ballet, Ballet de Lorraine, and Royal Danish Ballet Copenhagen.
Marcos Morau's works embrace formats and languages where opera, dance, and physical theater engage in dialogue, seeking individual paths of expression and communication in an increasingly turbulent and changing present. He combines his artistic work with educational activities by teaching classes and workshops on his creative processes at conservatories and universities such as the Institut del Teatre, the University of Arts in Strasbourg, or the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris.
Marcos Morau has been honored with the National Dance Prize in Spain and was recently voted Choreographer of the Year 2023 by the magazine «tanz».
Since 2023, Marcos Morau has been an Artist in Residence at the Staatsballett Berlin.
