Ivan Estegneev
Ivan Estegneev studied in St Petersburg and in 2002 co-founded the dance company Dialogue Dance with Evgeny Kulagin. With the company, he created more than 30 productions, three of which were awarded the prestigious Russian theatre prize Golden Mask. From 2012, he served as Choreographer-in-Residence at the Gogol Centre in Moscow, and also worked as a curator for the Diversia Festival as well as Diana Vishneva’s Context Festival.
Since 2022, Estegneev has been living and working in Germany. He has taught at the Contemporary Dance School Hamburg, K3 – Centre for Choreography | Kampnagel, and the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. From 2022 to 2025, he was engaged as a guest choreographer at Thalia Theater Hamburg, where his projects included Black Monk, Der Wij, Barocco, LEGENDE, The Bat and Behind the Closed Doors.
In 2023, he choreographed the performance Apocalypse Tomorrow for the company KIRILL & FRIENDS, which was presented at the Lessing Days at Thalia Theater Hamburg. In 2024, his solo performance Demon’s Sorrow premiered in Hamburg and was shown at several European festivals. In 2025, he was commissioned for the opera The Listeners at the Aalto Theatre Essen, for Don Giovanni/Requiem at the Komische Oper Berlin, and for The Blizzards at D’Haus. Also in 2025, he launched the physical theatre workshop programme DialogLab in Berlin and other European cities.
