Irene Selka
Irene Selka began working as a lighting designer in the early 2000s. From 2005, she spent three years living in Brazil, where she collaborated with directors including José Celso Martinez Corrêa and Frank Castorf.
After returning to Germany, she started working at the Berlin State Opera (Staatsoper Unter den Linden), where she was responsible for lighting design for a wide range of productions on the workshop stage, and from 2016 onwards also for productions on the main stage. Alongside this, she has continued to work regularly at other theatres and in independent productions.
Since 2020, she has been head of the lighting department at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Her collaborations with directors such as Jürgen Flimm, Philipp Stölzl, Eva-Maria Höckmayr, Elisabeth Stöppler, Isabel Ostermann, Vincent Huguet, Michael von zur Mühlen, Georg Schütky and Marcin Łakomicki have taken her beyond the Berlin State Opera to venues in Basel, Venice, Münster, Łódź and Graz.
