Benjamin Schneider

Profile

Benjamin Schneider studied church music and conducting at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. Following positions in Osnabrück and Wiesbaden, he has been Head of Music Staff at the Staatstheater Nürnberg since 2018. His conducting repertoire spans a wide range of genres – from baroque opera, operetta and musical theatre to Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten, including a co-production for the Wiesbaden May Festival.

While in Wiesbaden, he took on the musical direction of several ballet evenings, including Stephan Thoss’s Loops and Lines with Ensemble Modern, which he also conducted in other projects. For Hessisches Staatsballett, he led performances of choreographies by Tim Plegge, including Felix Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sergei Prokofiev’s Cinderella, and Hans Zender’s Winterreise.

He first collaborated with Christian Spuck and Ballett Zürich on Winterreise in 2021 – a production that was released on DVD under his musical direction.
