Welcome to the educational program

Tanz ist KLASSE! - is the name of the educational program of the Staatsballett Berlin.

With our wide range of offers we want to convey the joy of dance to all people. Feel free to look around our site and find the offer that suits you. We look forward to welcoming you and your children soon.

Your Tanz ist KLASSE! team:

Alexandra van Veldhoven, Henriette Köpke, Philomena Witt and the dance pedagogues Elinor Jagodnik, Stefan Witzel, Bettina Thiel and Kathlyn Pope.

"Dancing encourages creativity, boosts self-confidence and inspires team spirit."

Portrait

Portrait

Dancing promotes creativity, strengthens self-confidence, makes you fit, and awakens team spirit. No one knows this better than the former dancers of the Staatsballett Berlin. On behalf of the Tanz ist KLASSE! association, they share their fascinating world of dance and ballet with children and young people. In events, workshops and projects, they provide insights into training and rehearsal work, present costumes and props, reveal the secret of pointe shoes and accompany participants as they take their first dance steps. They also prepare performance visits and bring a piece of European cultural history to life for the children and young people. In this way, everyone finds their own personal approach to ballet.
The great dancer and later ballet director Gert Reinholm (1923-2005) even dreamed of establishing dance as a school subject and decreed that his legacy be used accordingly. With the support of Berliner helfen e.V., the association Tanz ist KLASSE! has set out to fulfill this legacy.

Schools and kindergarten groups

Dancing makes you strong. And happy. It promotes flexibility, strength, speed, endurance and coordination. In addition, it connects with other people and conveys a sense of cohesion and security, and not just to children. In short: Dancing is a school for life. What could be more natural than to let as many children and young people as possible participate in it?
Tanz ist KLASSE! has various offers especially for school classes in its program. In addition to performances of the current season, there are also age-appropriate workshops. In these workshops, which last about two hours, students have the opportunity to look behind the scenes of the Staatsballett Berlin, experience the dancers in their daily training, and also try out a few dance steps themselves. These workshops are also aimed at kindergarten groups, for whom we prepare a playful lesson in the morning.
If you would like to participate in a workshop with your class or group or if you are planning to attend a performance, please contact us, we will be happy to advise you!

Booking

Offers for families

Tanz ist KLASSE! offers families the opportunity to participate in a workshop at the Staatsballett Berlin together with their children on certain dates, for example during the vacations. They look behind the scenes of the Staatsballett Berlin, learn interesting facts about ballet, pointe shoes and costumes, and also dance a few steps themselves.

In preparation for attending the performances marked as "family performances," we will prepare your children and you for the performance. We introduce the characters and the plot using production photos, and try a few dance steps ourselves to the original music, which the children will then recognize danced by the professional dancers on stage.

All dates can be found in our calendar below, registration is through our Contact form.

Holiday offers

During the school holidays we offer children of different ages a varied program of dance courses lasting several days. Have a look in our calendar below.

TanzTanz

Our TanzTanz workshop is aimed at all those who want to experience their own body and feel its expressive possibilities. Under the guidance of our dance pedagogues and former dancers of the Staatsballett Berlin, training takes place in the studios of the Staatsballett Berlin as well as the rehearsal of original choreographies, which the participants present to each other. The workshop is aimed at young adults aged 15 and older, previous knowledge of classical dance is required.

Dance courses

Within our Creative Children's Dance, children from the age of 3 (for boys, for girls from the age of 4) learn in various groups to express themselves with their bodies. The physical abilities and creativity of the children are trained and the natural joy of movement is deepened through rhythmic and spatial games. Stories are improvised, fear of contact is reduced, foundations for healthy movement are laid, and finally the children gain self-confidence. The courses are led by our dance pedagogues Bettina Thiel and Stefan Witzel.

In addition to the Creative Children's Classes, we offer ballet classes, partly based on the technique of the Royal Academy of Dance®. Under the guidance of Elinor Jagodnik and Kathlyn Pope PDTD, dance pedagogues for Tanz ist KLASSE! and registered RAD® teacher (Pope), we currently offer ongoing classes in Beginner, Pre-Ballet, RAD® Grade 2, Grade 3, Intermediate as well as a pointe class.

In addition, we offer an ongoing ballet class for adults ages 16 and up.

If you are interested in any of our classes, please feel free to contact us using our contact form.

Movement lab

Enter our new movement lab!

For one year you will explore the possibilities of dance and develop your own choreographies. Within the lab there is enough time to exchange ideas with the dance pedagogue Stefan Witzel. What is important to you, what would you like to try out? Potential performances will also be decided and organized together. But only you decide where the lab will go.

The movement lab "OFF-Set" takes place once a week for 90 minutes in the studios of the Staatsballett Berlin. An annual fee of 30 euros is charged for participation. Participation is open to all young people between the ages of 12 and 18 who are interested in dance and movement.

For registration and further information, please contact Henriette Köpke at h.koepke@tanz-ist-klasse.de or call 030 34 384 166.
