My Voluntary Social Year in Culture - soon to be yours, too?

As a dance enthusiast and recent high school graduate, I started my Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) Culture at Tanz ist KLASSE! e.V., the education program of the Staatsballett Berlin, for the 2019/20 season.

My responsibilities ranged from organizing the daily school workshops, to accompanying a dance teacher to a school in Steglitz every week, to organizing our TanzTanz workshops. Sounds like boring computer work? But my last year was anything but monotonous...

Because behind the scenes of the association you need a lot of commitment to keep the numerous visitors who participate in our offers happy. Telephone calls, mail traffic and the personal customer service turned out to be a varied and challenging task, which went far beyond the screen. It was especially fulfilling when my work was gratefully acknowledged by teachers, students and others.

Another part of my FSJ was the 9-month supervision of an elementary school class. Finally, I decided to do a FSJ in culture in order to be active in children's and youth work. This wish has come true here, as a special relationship has developed with the children, which has given me deep insights into pedagogical work.

But as a volunteer at Tanz ist KLASSE! you are also part of the "Staatsballett family", which has a great team with a lively dynamic. Because of the association's connection to the Staatsballett Berlin, I was very close to the events of the ballet company and thus got deep insights into the cultural institution.

My FSJ Kultur at Tanz ist KLASSE! e.V. was a great experience that I will look back on with joy for the rest of my life. The close teamwork and the varied tasks made my year very pleasant and helped me in my personal development.
