For the first time Tanz ist KLASSE! e.V. offers a multi-day dance workshop in Berlin with Nicholas Palmquist, celebrated pedagogue, choreographer and dancer! Over the course of two days, his empathy, distinct musicality, and dance ingenuity will lead participants to make his choreography their own and to explore working with the medium of film together.

Enter a safe space where you can be who you want to be, where you can be the dancer you feel like being. Explore a space where pressure to perform and competition are excluded. - Even if this sounds utopian for many dance spaces, Nicholas Palmquist is able to create exactly this dance space.

In a two-day workshop you will have the opportunity to enter this space with Nicholas. After a warm-up, which prepares you for the different movement sequences and tempos, you will work on one of his well-known choreographies, which are characterized by his distinctive musicality. On the second day, you will not only reflect on this choreography and adapt it if necessary, but also explore together how your own dance and feelings change as soon as an "observer" in the form of a camera enters the room. While dancers are usually used to dance with big movements for an audience, Nicholas' choreographies and especially his handling of the medium film are about the feeling of being completely with oneself and feeling the emotions.

Nicholas Palmquist's method is a fusion of his global experiences in fashion, TV/film, theater and contemporary dance. Through his gentle approach to the dancers and the dance space, he creates a "safe space" where there is no right and wrong, where each dancer can feel free and valuable. It is precisely this approach to teaching that has an impact on the result on stage, film and choreography. With this method, he believes, it is the process that brings the result to success.

The workshop is aimed at amateur dancers from 17 years with previous knowledge and enjoyment of movement and dance. The workshop takes place on September 24th from 2 - 5 pm and on September 25th from 11 am - 2 pm in the ballet studio of the Staatsballett Berlin in the Deutsche Oper Berlin and costs 85 euros per person. The workshop will be held in English.

Nicholas Palmquist is a dancer, pedagogue and choreographer working in a variety of dance genres around the world. He has danced commercially for The Radio City Rockettes, Netflix, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Tony Awards and several feature films. He has danced for Kenzo, H&M, Hermès NYFW and choreographed for Zalando, Vogue x CFDA fashion fund, Vogue Mexico and Nordstrom. Nicholas Palmquist has danced at the Joyce Theater and in the Guggenheim Works and Process series with American Dance Machine, restaging original Broadway repertoire under the direction of Wayne Cilento, and conversely danced with Broadway Dance Lab, creating new models for how dance is made. He has lived in Germany for three years and has since worked and choreographed with the Semperoper Ballett Dresden, the Palucca Schule Dresden, the Staatsballett Berlin, and the Ballett Schwerin.
