Bert Dalhuysen, born in Hoofddorp in Holland, studied in the Hague at the academy of photography and photographic aesthetics. For four years he worked as managing director and photographer at the Arinde Visual Design Photo and Design Studio of Amsterdam. In 1986 he was engaged by the Amsterdam opera-house and undertook artistic responsibility for the lighting sector of the Netherlands National Ballet. For twenty years Bert Dalhuysen has been active internationally as a light designer of ballet, opera and spoken theatre productions, and among the choreographers with whom he has worked are Hans van Manen, David Dawson, Krzysztof Pastor, Itzik Galili, Jan Fabre, Martin Schläpfer, Krisztina de Châtel and Nicolo Fonte.
