Alejandro Virelles

Alejandro Virelles was born in Cuba and trained at the National Ballet School in Havana. He was the Silver Medal winner at the Varna International Competition in 2004. In 2002 he won the Gold and Special Prize at the International Ballet Competition of Ballet Schools, Havana, and took the Gold Medal again in 2004. After his graduation he was engaged at the Cuban National Ballet till 2009, where he was promoted to Principal Dancer. He continued his career with the Barcelona Ballet and the Boston Ballet. In 2014 he was engaged as a Principal at the English National Ballet. He also made guest appearances in Russia, the United States and South America. In 2017 he joined the Bayerisches Staatsballett as a Principal. Since the season 2018/2019, he’s dancing as Principal at the Staatsballett Berlin.
