Programme changes: SYM-PHONIE MMXXand SWAN LAKE

The Staatsballett Berlin announces changes in the second half of the 21/22 season: SYM-PHONIE MMXX will be staged as a collaborative production of Sasha Waltz & Guests and the Staatsballett Berlin. In addition, SWAN LAKE will return to its origins at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden.

As planned, SYM-PHONIE MMXX by Sasha Waltz and Georg Friedrich Haas will celebrate its world premiere on March 13, 2022, two years to the day rehearsals came to a halt. Due to artistic reasons, it will be staged as a production of the Staatsballett Berlin, co-produced by Sasha Waltz & Guests, at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden on March 13 (world premiere), 18 and 19, 2022 featuring dancers of Sasha Waltz & Guests. The Staatskapelle Berlin will play under the baton of Ilan Volkov.

Two years with the corona pandemic lie between the originally planned world premiere in 2020 and the new premiere date. After all this time, choreographer Sasha Waltz would like to further develop her work. The extensive and necessary rehearsals are beyond what the Staatsballett Berlin had originally allotted to this production. Both companies, the Staatsballett Berlin and Sasha Waltz & Guests, have now found a way to stage SYM-PHONIE MMXX. Reflections on issues of sustainability in regards to the already completed stage design (Pia Maier-Schriever), costumes (Bernd Skodzig) and light design (David Finn) as well as the wish to stage the commissioned composition by Georg Friedrich Haas led to this productive cooperation – this "symphony" of Staatsballett Berlin and Sasha Waltz & Guests.

At the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the dancers of the Staatsballett Berlin will take the stage in further performances of JEWELS by George Balanchine on April 18, 19, 22 and 28 and three additional performances of John Cranko's ONEGIN on May 22, 27 and June 17.

SWAN LAKE by Patrice Bart will return to its roots at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in December 2022. In order to make this happen, the set must be adapted to the requirements of the opera's stage. Therefore all performances of SWAN LAKE at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in February, March and April 2022 will be replaced by further performances of the Grand Ballet DON QUIXOTE on February 17, 22 and 24 as well as the double bill DAWSON on March 23, April 16 and 23.

Tickets to all performances between February 2022 and the end of this season will go on sale November 26 at noon.
