Komische Oper Berlin
The Komische Oper Berlin derives its name from the French »opéra comique« and stands traditionally for a modern and vivid music theatre, in which musical and scenic activity mutually determine each other. The ensemble of virtuous singing-actors is in the centre of happenings and presents itself with a well diversified repertoire, ranging from Händel up to the 21st century. Since it was founded in the year 1947, the Komische Oper offers all performances in German, in order to provide an immediate audience participation with the dramatic events. Such directors as Peter Konwitschny, Hans Neuenfels, Calixto Bieito, Sebastian Baumgarten and Barrie Kosky as well as chief director Andreas Homoki mould the profile. Andreas Homoki is as well general director of the House since the 2004/05 season. General music director of the Komische Oper Berlin from the season 2008/09 on is Carl St. Clair.
