Our audiences have been waiting a long time to see the return of OZ - THE WONDERFUL WIZARD, a dance piece by Giorgio Madia, which is now back at the Komische Oper Berlin, for aduls and children from the age of 6 upwards.
You may reach a lot – if not the most important things – with heart, brain and courage. That is what little Dorothy learns during her journey through The Marvelous Land of Oz, in which a terrible storm swirls her. She didn’t expect to be welcomed that friendly and even less to find such wonderful friends as the smart Scarecrow, the amiable Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Together the four have to pass many adventures and find OZ, The Wonderful Wizard, to ask him for help before their dreams come true. The story constantly revolves around the path-goal theory.
Despite its tradition in film and on stage the book was never adapted for dance. Giorgio Madia was engaged to arouse the charm of the story and its characters, to unleash the dynamic of the enormous adventures and to create a charming and fascinating evening for Staatsballett Berlin and its audience. Several international prizes were awarded to the Italian choreographer who is famous for his poetic and humorous style. This production is based on the American children’s book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum and is perfectly suitable for the entire family.
45 minutes before each performance (except premieres), there is an introduction in the opera house (in German).
It is prepared and moderated by students of the institute of dance studies (Institut für Tanzwissenschaft) of Freie Universität Berlin.
